SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. This is the art and science of making a website system and/or design as effective and functional as possible for ‘natural’ or ‘organic’ search results via the search engines (Google, Yahoo, MSN, etc) for specific targeted keywords and/or keyword phrases as well as making the site as pleasing and functional as possible for the searcher.
The process of SEO consists mainly of keyword research, content creation and placement, site layout/design and architecture, link building and link structure.
Since most traffic and converting traffic happens in the SERPS (Search Engine Results Pages) over PPC– and the fact that it is “free” traffic… the value of SEO can be extremely high depending on what sort of revenue and profit your website generates. For most businesses optimizing for the search engines is no-brainer and is just a piece of the overall business strategy. Whether you pay a professional to perform SEO on your site or handle that process on your own there are many techniques, strategies and processes that go into SEO. Taken as parts, the processes and pieces of SEO are relatively easy and straight forward to understand… but putting the entire puzzle together is a whole different story. And beyond that, there is just managing and watching the results on an on going basis trying to “quickly” and “accurately” determine what those mean and how to adjust. It’s this last piece of the puzzle that professional SEOers are worth their weight in gold.
Regardless of what you decide to do, hire a professional or do-it-yourself, there are many facets of SEO you should be familiar with.
In the days to come I’m going to be highlighting most of these puzzle pieces, in the meantime if you have questions or are interested in hiring a professional experienced in SEO you can contact me at seosuggestions@gmail.com or click here
